Abstract

This study aims to identify tourism components in the Kawalo Fort area as a potential historical tourism attraction in Taliabu Island Regency. The research employed literature studies, field observations, and focus group discussions (FGD) with total 24 participants from local stakeholders. Findings reveal that Kawalo Fort holds significant historical value, although its physical structure is largely damaged. The two remaining colonial cannons are important indicators of the site's existence. Accessibility to the location remains challenging due to poor road infrastructure and limited water transport. Amenities around the fort are minimal, although a local homestay is available. Butler's Tourism Area Life Cycle model analyzes the area in the exploration phase. With a combination of historical significance, local legends, and natural tourism potential, Kawalo Fort has the opportunity to be developed as a sustainable culture-based tourism destination. Further research, infrastructure support, and community involvement are crucial for its development.
